Here's how: 1) Peel 100g (1 large) onion and slice it into wedges. Fry 500g lean meat cubes (pork, beef, or a mixture) in batches in 1 tablespoon of hot oil. Add the onion and fry until golden brown. 2) Pour in 400ml water, stir in the goulash mix, and bring to a boil, stirring occasionally. 3) Cover and simmer the goulash over low heat for about 1.5 hours. Stir occasionally. Pasta, dumplings, or potatoes and red cabbage make a classic accompaniment.
