Marigold

The flowers of the plant Calendula officinalis L., fam. Asteraceae, contain carotenoids, flavones, saponins, mucilages, triterpenes, resins, volatile oil, bitter substances, vitamin C.

Originally cultivated by the Egyptians, Greeks, Hindus and Arabs, marigolds also reached European gardens, being used for their benefits since the 12th century. Their popular use, inherited from a time lost in history, slowly turned into established medical use, the plant being introduced into pharmacopoeias and other medical treatises.
